A Room Full of Toys

By Lisa V. Burdette

After breakfast Andrew went to play in his room. The first things he saw were his super mega building blocks. He built a skyscraper that went to the ceiling. He crashed and rebuilt his super skyscraper many times. When he was tired of playing engineer he thought, "I'll put these toys away".

But then he saw his root'n toot'n tough train set. He laid the tracts all around his room. They went through the center of skyscraper city. He started his train tugging toughly around his toes. He played conductor for a good hour! He thought, "I'll put away some of these toys".

But he opened the closet and saw his 50-piece friendly farmer Fred set. He began laying out his farm and barn and silo and animals and fences and tractors. The farm went around the outskirts of skyscraper city, along the tracts next to the trains depot. He played farmer for a long time. Then he thought , "I really should put away some of these toys".

But in his toy box he saw his super deluxe action pop-up tent and kids camping gear. So he popped up the tent and set up a campsite on the side of the farm, near the skyscraper, next to the train depot. He pretended to camp out ,cook out and stampout forest fires. When he was tired he thought , "I really should put away some of these toys".

But out of the corner of his eye , he saw his fold-up easy art easel, including crayons, clay, paint and paper. He set up his easel in the middle of the train tracks, away from the skyscraper, but next to his camp. The friendly Fred farm was somewhere there too! He played artist and made all sorts of lovely pictures and clay animals and scattered them all about his room to look like a art gallery. When he was finished he thought, "I really should put away some of these toys".

Then he spied , under his bed , his wacky wild race car set with double loops , 100 feet of track and twin power ejectors. he set up the wacky wild racer through his campsite and around the barn, over his train tracks, under his easel and on the other side of his skyscraper. He played race car driver until he ran out of gas.

About then he heard his Mom call from down stairs, "lunch time". He was starving. But when he looked up he was surround by toys! He couldn't find the door, or the closet, or the bed or anything else. So he thought, "I guess I have to put away some of these toys".

So one by one went the wacky wild racer set with double loops and 100 feet of track. One by one went the fold out easel , including crayons ,clay, paint and paper. One by one went his power deluxe power pop up tent and camping gear. One by one went Fred's friendly farm set and silo too. One by one went the tough toot'n train, tracks and all. And the super mega building blocks, well they stayed out cause there is only so much putting away a boy can do.
